Today I had an email from The Writers’ Workshop, organisers of a writers’ convention that I had attended back in September last year, letting me know about the Goat Bursary Award. The bursary, open to unpublished authors without an agent who are living in the UK, offers one person two nights’ accommodation at the Festival of Writing in York, a pass to all the workshops and talks, one-to-ones with agents, and with all meals and travelling expenses paid. There is even a little spending money. The bursary, worth £800, also includes editorial feedback from agent Sue Armstrong at Conville & Walsh, who is the agent of last year’s winner Joanna Cannon.
All that’s needed is to send 500 words of an unpublished manuscript, together with a covering letter explaining why you would like to attend the workshops, and why you should be awarded the funding and the Goat Bursary Award. The deadline is 5pm on 22nd August 2016. The winner will be notified by email no later than 28th August.
Send your entries to firstname.lastname@example.org
What are you waiting for? I’ve sent my 500 words off, and now it’s your turn UK authors! The organisers anticipate a high number of entries, but hey, if we don’t take part then we stand no chance of winning!
