I thought I’d write this blog to let you know how my book signing event went at Liverpool’s Merseyside Maritime Museum last Saturday (all proceeds of this went to the Claire House Children’s Hospice).
Before Sam and I left on Friday evening, I made sure I had the following with me for the day:
- A large black tablecloth.
- 25 of my books, which I had ordered via Ingram Spark.
- Book stands.
- A roll-up display poster to stand alongside my table.
- Free paperclips and post-its to give away.
- A form for readers to sign up for my mailing list.
- Free codes for my audio books.
- Free bookmarks and flyers to display on the table.
I read that a lorry had spilt 32,000 litres of gin over part of the M6 the day before, and the road had been closed, but thankfully we had no problems on the 5 hour journey to our hotel.
Saturday morning saw us arrive bright and early on the 4th floor of the Maritime Museum. The sun shone and the Albert Dock looked rather attractive. Another good thing about the docks, is that many of the museums and galleries are free to enter (the Maritime Museum included).
I met up with author and organiser Sandra Robinson (pseudonym Scarlett Flame) and then set up my stand. There were about 15 other authors taking part as well.
The dock below was buzzing all day, and we had quite a few visitors. I managed to sell 6 books, gave away 2 more, and gained another 5 email addresses for my mailing list. The most popular of my books on the day was ‘No Sex Please, I’m Menopausal!’, which was soon sold out. Note to self: I must remember to bring more copies of that one next time I attend a signing event.
I was pleased to meet Nick from Ingram Spark, who also had a stand. He gave me a free pen, a free notebook and a free code for when I publish my next book!
I’d like to thank Sandra for organising everything and for the delicious lunch that was provided. I enjoyed the day and would happily take part in another one.
During the evening Sam and I went walkabout and found a nice restaurant to have dinner. Here are some views from around the docks.
