I saw a ‘What am I currently reading?‘ question on Suzan Khoja’s blog, and so I thought I’d join in:
The demands of Christmas are starting to bite, and so unfortunately I’ve had to slow down on the reading a bit. However, ‘Educated‘ by Tara Westover is the one I will be finishing when I’ve got a bit more time:
Tara Westover grew up preparing for the End of Days. The government didn’t know she existed: no birth certificate because she’d never been registered, no school records because she’d never set foot in a classroom, and no medical records because her father didn’t believe in hospitals.
As she grew older, her father became more radical and her brother more violent. At sixteen, Tara knew she had to leave home. In doing so she discovered both the incredible power of education, and the price she had to pay for it.
I’ve recently finished this unofficial biography of Stevie Nicks by Stephen Davis – Gold Dust Woman:
This is an unauthorised biography, and so the author never actually got to speak to Stevie Nicks, who has said in the past that if she ever wrote her autobiography it would make a lot of people very unhappy.
Mr Davis writes of Fleetwood Mac’s rise to fame along with a splash of the who’s-sleeping-with-whom catalogue of affairs that the band are famous for. Relationship problems and drug and alcohol addiction are rife, and I learned of Stevie’s unrequited love for Joe Walsh.
The book is quite entertaining, but of course I would have preferred Ms Nicks’ personal input. She is obviously privy to much information that would make rather absorbing reading!
