I was prompted to write this blog after reading Soul Gifts – Telling Tales’ blog regarding toilet paper. It seems that there is a thin line between civilisation and mass panic, and the thin line has been broken.
I’ve just come home from work at my local hospital. Despicable people are stealing the hand sanitiser machines. I’ve heard tales of men fighting over packets of toilet rolls in Tesco’s, and one poor chap was surrounded by people wearing white overalls and masks when he coughed a few times in Outpatients.
True human nature is on show here; it’s every man/woman for themselves and their own family, and sod everybody else. The selfishness of people is beyond belief. Why would you fight over a packet of toilet rolls? Haven’t they heard of wet wipes or tissues? Why steal hand sanitisers from hospitals and put even more people at risk – people whose immune systems may be compromised through co-morbidities?
I won’t be surprised to see toilet rolls and hand sanitisers on sale at boot fairs, Ebay and anywhere else where these low-life people can make a large profit by selling them at vastly inflated prices. All I can hope is that nobody buys them.
So we are still in the ‘containment’ phase. Why not banish people to their homes for 2 or 3 weeks like the Chinese did? It’ll all be over more quickly and the virus won’t drag on for 6 months. The Chinese have got it right, but we all know it’s never going to happen over here. There’ll be fights to the death for toilet paper, tinned food and pasta, with the media fuelling the panic-buying. The sooner supermarkets start rationing foodstuffs, the better it’ll be for all of us. Until then only the strongest and most selfish will be able to stockpile all the food. May they gain diabetes for their sins…

Wow. Toilet paper hoarders are Trump’s fault. I learn something new every day. On topic, respect went out the window long ago when the youth culture blew in from Advertiser Wasteland. ME in caps can be induced by want, ignorance, entitlement, greed, media, mob mentality…all I really know is I should have bought Charmin last week because the university down the Street is primed and prepared for a two week lockdown poopfest brought on by a media feeding frenzy. The good news is there’s a surplus of lettuce leaves…

When I read about the two week lockdown poopfest I laughed so loud that Sam came down from his office upstairs to find out what was so funny. This shouldn’t be funny, but it is. Thanks for a great start to my day, Mr Huston!

My neighbor has a huge beech tree so I’ll have an abundant leaf supply, unless those Trump hating squirrels attack me when I get close. My backup plan, I’m watching how my does ‘cleans’ and will copy that!

They suggested leaves to us in the Boy Scouts. But the camping myth was how “some guy, somewhere” inadvertently grabbed a handful of poison ivy. So we all took the small end rolls from home before they got so small as to be useless.

What has happened to civilization? Trump! That is what has happened to our American civilization: hatred of others, racism, rude and crude language from our President. He suffers from malignant narcissism, sadism, and paranoia and he is unfit for the office of the Presidency.

I used to teach character education in my elementary classroom, Karen. I have no idea how I would explain to them why the President is entitled to act like a bully.

I can just imagine how difficult it was and is to teach character education with Trump as President as he stands on his “Bully” pulpit. He is mentally ill and mentally incompetent. Why Republican people accept this is because the too are bullies, racist, and are afraid of him – Why. this they took a stand he would crumple completely that is what happens to most bullies when confronted – bullies are grown up babies.

I agree, Stevie. The Chinese and Japanese people are very disciplined and that is how they are coping with this crisis. When they are given an instruction, they do what they are told. Western people are not disciplined and will bring the wrath of hell upon their own heads.

Yes, there’s no respect for authority. If the Government tells us to stay inside, many will take no notice at all and continue spreading the virus. Perhaps that’s why Boris Johnson hasn’t moved to the ‘delay’ phase – there’s just no point.

Not sure I agree with you about the Chinese approach being the right one. For what it’s worth, here’s my take on the situation (with a veiled plug for my forthcoming book!) https://franklparker.com/2020/03/09/monday-musings-is-the-fear-of-disease-worse-than-the-disease/#comment-26586

Good post, Frank. The Chinese have the virus contained now through self-isolation. We’re all running around and spreading it far and wide.
