Welcome to this week’s blog hop. Today the topic is:
The holiday season is just around the corner. What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received? What’s the worst one you ever given?
The worst gift I ever received must have been around Christmas of 1985. Our eldest son was 3, the youngest one was a month old, and we had no money. Sam needed to do some repairs on the family car, as we couldn’t afford to take it into a garage and pay inflated prices and labour charges.
To do this repair he needed to get underneath the car, and announced that he needed a torque wrench and a pair of axle stands to add to his collection of tools. That year, struggling with debt, we had to agree to forego the niceties of buying each other Christmas presents as the car had to take priority. Consequently Sam received a gift from me of a torque wrench (He had bought it himself and then gave it to me to wrap – I was not working then) and I opened up my present on Christmas morning to find a lovely pair of axle stands. I felt like crying!
The worst present I ever gave was to my mother round about Christmas 1976, although I didn’t know it at the time. It must have been the worst present though, because she never ever wore the vivid green blouse with voluminous sleeves I presented to her on Christmas Day. Hmm… I wonder why? I’d saved my wages from my summer job and had scoured Roman Road market to find something she would like. However, apparently it wasn’t that!
