It’s Day 10 of Bloganuary today, and the topic is:
What 5 things are you grateful for today?
That’s an easy one for me. I’ve listed them below, not in any particular order:
- To have been clear of advanced thyroid cancer for 5 years now after 12 years of treatments, and so with a bit of luck have a good chance of seeing my 5 grandchildren reach adulthood.
- To be able to work as a medical secretary from home in the comfort of my own living room, doing a job I enjoy, and a job which by typing thousands of letters from various departments over the years has taught me how to have a healthy and happy old age.
- To be able to write novels as and when I want as a hobby, and then receive favourable reviews from readers who have purchased them.
- To have a loving and supportive family.
- To still be mobile and pain-free at the age of 64 so that I can enjoy keeping fit by walking/cycling around the countryside where I live and also around the beautiful Isle of Wight where we have a caravan.
Here’s to your continued good health, Stevie!

I didn’t realise you had treatment for your cancer for 12 years, Stevie. That is a long time. My mom’s treatment was only 2 years. I am so glad you are in remission, that is truly something to be grateful for.

Treatments on and off for 12 years. I never thought I’d ever get rid of it.

I am so glad you have. My mom seems to have developed an allergy to tamoxifen, the drugs that help prevent a return of her breast cancer. I’m a little worried.

Treatments for cancer make the body more sensitive to certain substances. I have lifelong sensitivities now.

In no order.
1) The devotion and companionship of Ollie.
2) Family. (Most of them, anyway)
3) Being retired.
4) Not having a mortgage.
5) It didn’t rain today.
Best wishes, Pete.

Ah yes, not having a mortgage. We paid ours off around 10 years ago.

We moved here with no mortgage in 2012. That’s why we are staying here. 🙂

Yes all good things to be grateful for Stevie, as the elderly relatives used to say, much to our amusement, … as long as you’ve got your health… I am also grateful to NHS for funding our treatment!

Yes, without good health life sucks big time. Good old NHS – long may it continue.
