Remember those halcyon days when you had to sit through adverts? However, back then advert breaks were entertaining and not the six-minute bore they are now if you haven’t got a fast forward button.
Remember these jingles/ catch phrases/ parts of catch phrases below? I’m not going to give away what the products were … it’s up to you to guess (no Googling!). The first one who gets them all right can pick a free pdf of whichever of my books they like.
- Lipsmackinthirstquenchinacetastininnovatingoodbuzzincooltalkinghighwalkinfastlivinevergivincoolfizzin’?
- ..?.. with the totally tropical taste.
- Last stop on round would be old Ma Peggoty’s place…
- You’ll wonder where the yellow went …
- The mark of a man…
- Splash it all over…
- I’m trying to give it up, but it’s one of those nights…
- Be careful how you use it…
- It’s frothy, man…
- Have a break…
- Full of Eastern promise…
- You hum it son, and I’ll play it…
- Bootiful!
- Hey Schubert, coming down to the bierkeller …?
- There’s a terrific draught in here…

Your clues were out of my league, and out of my country I’m sure – most of them anyway, lol. Looks like Pete watched a lot of ads lol 🙂 xx

Hi Stevie, we had some great adverts too with memorable slogans. “It’s not inside, It’s on top” is one I remember. “You let your kids use new towels around the pool?” “Those towels new, not a chance, but here’s what fooled you, Surf.”

Lol, some slogans are cringeworthy, aren’t they?

I managed about half of them but there were some I don’t ever recall seeing, looking at Pete’s crib sheet. And there was I thinking no.4 was something to do with snow 😉

I think I can do these without cheating on Google.
1) Pepsi.
2) Lilt.
3) Hovis. (Filmed in Shaftesbury by Ridley Scott!)
4) “When you brush your teeth with Pepsodent.”
5) Old Spice. My dad used it, and I did for a while.
6) Brut. (I used that too)
7) R White’s Lemonade. (The secret lemonade drinker.)
8) Hai Karate aftershave. (I never used that one.)
9) Cresta. (Soft drinks.)
10) Have a Kit Kat.
11) Fry’s Turkish Delight. (I used to like that. Too sweet now.)
12) PG Tips Tea. (The chimps adverts, piano on his foot.)
13) Bernard Matthews Turkey. (Big employer around here.)
14) Kronenbourg Lager.
15) Watneys Beer. (Peter Cook did the ad.)
I struggled for 5 minutes to remember the Schubert beer name, but the others all came to me instantly. I must have watched far too much telly! 🙂
Best wishes, Pete.

Good effort, Pete! The last one isn’t correct, but all the others are.

Don’t worry about the book. I still haven’t read Scam yet! 🙂
I don’t need a prize, as I enjoy having a go.

Scroll down to Heineken: 1970, which says Heineken, Heineken, draught lager beer. I can still remember the tune, lol.

Pete and Paul pick your book for being good sports and taking part. I’ve just got to pop out for half an hour, but if you want to know the answer I’ll add it when I get back.

You’ve started something there! I’m struggling with 3, 8, 13 14 and 15. It’s going to drive me mad or to Google. Older ads were often pretty bad but not half as annoying as ads today.

These must be British ads as I only recognize one of them. There was good money in writing jiggles at one time. Now they just use old songs they no longer have to pay a Royalty for.

Yes, British ads. I never watch adverts now. We record things we want to watch and then fast forward through the adverts the following night.
