Today on Sunday Stills the topic is ‘Emerging’.
I’m not much of a gardener, but I planted some sunflower seeds a few weeks ago in little pots. Ten emerged and it looks as though five have survived the transplant to a spot in our front garden alongside our garage wall. Round about August time there is a competition in our village for the tallest sunflower, and maybe, you never know, one of these babies might win…
The second picture is the view of the garden from our front door of emerging magnolia flowers and pink buds on our 40 year old tamarisk. Leaves on the tree in the field opposite our house (in the background) have also emerged to greet the spring. That’s my seat in the shade next to the tamarisk where I read my Kindle or just sit and do absolutely nothing.

Thanks Debby. Some of them sadly haven’t survived, I fear. x

Very nice! Use that giant bud fertilizer they use for roses and weed. My wife has been trying to find a Japanese Maple for at least five years and yesterday a youthful one came from the garden center. We’ll see. Good luck on the sunflowers!

Thanks Phil. My daughter-in-law is growing some sunflowers too, and so I’ll nab some from her if they all keel over and die.

My daughter has what we refer to as a “black” thumb. That is, she can kill no-maintenance-required cactus.

Lol! I don’t really enjoy gardening much, but when I sit in the garden I like it to look neat. Therefore I have to do much work to keep it that way.

I was out there most of yesterday. Something about nice weather makes me want to stay outside all day.

Your emerging sunflowers look promising and wow, they are tall already, Stevie! Love your tamarisk and it emerges into spring. You will have to keep us in the loop about the sunflower competition 🙂

Thanks Darlene. They’re a bit spindly at the moment, but I hope they’ll pick up.
