Today on Sunday Stills the topic is ‘Again the Solstice’. Yes, the longest day is almost upon us, and so I thought I’d share a couple of photos that my husband took (on the way back from seeing a customer in Wiltshire) of the most famous UK monument that everyone associates with the solstice – Stonehenge. When I was younger you could go up to the stones and touch them, but now they’re all roped off and you have to pay to have a guided tour. It is aligned on the sun, and possibly was used to work out the yearly farming calendar. I always think it’s amazing how the prehistoric people managed to cart these 25 tonne stones from their original resting place 150 miles away in Wales.
