This week on Sunday Stills Terri has chosen the topic ‘Peek‘.
I first visited Quarr Abbey at Binstead, Isle of Wight about 10 years ago. I wandered around the monks’ graveyard at the back of the Abbey and then saw a little door far away from prying eyes. It looked as though it might be open, and I just had to have a peek inside…
Yes, the door was open, and I found a wonderfully dark and silent meditation chapel that I expect the majority of visitors do not know exists. The cool interior is balm to my soul on hot summer days. I am not at all religious, but every time I go to Quarr Abbey my first visit is around to the back to sit in contemplative silence for a while. I am always disappointed if somebody else discovers it and comes in whilst I’m sitting there!

Meditation doesn’t require religion. In fact, I believe the original and purest form of prayer isn’t an Our Father or howling at a wall or the moon, but peace.
