Jo Robinson is about to publish ‘The Secret Life of People’, but she would like some answers to the questions below. I have added my answers, and hope you will copy Jo’s questions and either leave your answers in the comments section of her blog, or publish your answers on your own blog to help her finish her last chapter.
Do you believe you are living a fulfilled life?
Yes. Life is what you make it. I’ve been married for nearly 40 years, and Sam and I are reaping the rewards from our time as parents. Our sons are grown with children of their own, and we love being a grandparents and having an extended family. I now also have more time to write novels, and still work part-time as a medical secretary.
Do you think that people have a purpose, and if so, do you know what yours is?
Yes, I think we’re all here for a purpose, and that purpose is to learn from our mistakes and grow spiritually.
Are you satisfied with the way the world and your country is governed?
No, not in the UK for a start, as that’s the only one I feel qualified to comment on. In my opinion all politicians are in it for personal glory, two houses, and the fat pay packet. The UK expenses scandal showed just how much MPs are prepared to use public money for their own financial gain. Then there have been numerous sex scandals/ child abuse scandals that were covered up for years. Good God, what a mess. What with the Brexit farce, these people couldn’t even organise a piss-up in a brewery.
Do you think that civilised societies today are on the right track?
I think it depends on what is being watched and listened to on the internet. The more porn/violence/rap videos that are watched will brutalise any vulnerable members of society even more.
If you work, are you happy with your job?
Yes. Working as a medical secretary makes me feel useful and valued. Plus I earn money from doing it!
If money was no object, what would you do with your days?
I’d buy a big house that includes lots of grounds, a swimming pool, a gym and a study. In this way I could exercise and write to my heart’s content!
Do you believe in life after death or reincarnation?
I don’t believe in reincarnation, but I do believe there is life after death. Spirits live on in another realm/plane which only a few of us can see while we’re alive.
Do you believe there will be consequences for good or evil acts?
Do you or someone that you know have problems with anxiety or depression?
I don’t personally, because as I said before, life is what you make it. However, my mother suffered with anxiety/depression all her life. She could never put her dysfunctional childhood behind her and move on, even 80 years later. If she could have done that, I’m sure she would have been much happier.
After a couple of very ‘educational” years, and a whole lot of stress every time I happened to think about my unfinished work, and also my as yet unpublished books lying around gathering dust, I’ve come out the other side quite happy that I did not in fact publish them when I wanted to. It would not have been fun, and publishing a book should always be fun. After a couple of health scares to the point where I assumed that I was on the verge of departing this mortal coil, and stressing over every little thing, I finally realized that not only have I no intention of expiring any time soon, living in fear of the future, the present, or the past, is absolutely useless to anyone. So I decided that as far as my health was concerned, I was going to go herbal, and as far as anything…
