Today on Sunday Stills the topic is ‘Your best black and white photos‘.
The only black and white photos I have are family photos from the 1960s, and so here am I at various ages with my parents and grandmother, and also I found one of Sam when he was about 9 or 10:
Stevie, you were so cute with all that curly hair. Your mother looks so much like your grandmother – even the hair. My favorite, though, though is the one with your dad at age 3. Too adorable on lots of levels. 🙂

Apparently on that day I wanted the moon. My dad told me that if I could reach out and grab it, then it was mine. The screaming that followed gave him a headache, I think.

LOL, but you grabbed it, got it and turned out just fine, Stevie. LOL

My father shot and we both printed black and white photographs in a bathroom converted to darkroom on weekend afternoons. We’d pile in the car afterwards and take laundry baskets full of the damp or air dried prints to an old building downtown on Robinson to Tony Hillerman’s father’s camera store/developing “lab” and run the prints through his drum dryer to flatten them out. HD is fine but it’s hard to beat a good black and white in the Ansel Adams vein. I use B&W all the time, even if I have to convert from color.

I haven’t taken black and white photos for years. I think with the Smart phones it’s possible to convert photos to black and white. I’ll have to try it.

I also only have a few pictures of my mother’s parents and they are also black and white.

Previous generations didn’t bother too much with photos, did they?

What a fun trip down memory lane, Stevie. There’s just something about those old photos in black and white that cultivate nostalgia.

Indeed. I wish I had more photos of my grandparents, but they didn’t take many in those days I think.

yes, that’s right, only more formal photos, and those were more expensive and rare

I have a suitcase full of B&W family photos somewhere. I think it’s in the loft, so I must try and find it someday, and give it to one of my younger cousins.
Best wishes, Pete.
