This month the topic is:
‘What are your pet peeves when reading/writing/editing?’
I must admit that when I’m reading it’s bad spelling and grammar, combined with the incorrect use of apostrophes which would make me abandon a book. I find it quite amazing that some authors cannot distinguish between ‘your’ and ‘you’re’, and ‘their, they’re and there’!
The only pet peeve I have about writing, is the effort needed to market the book once it is finished. This is because unless time is taken in building up an author platform beforehand, the new book might sink down amongst the millions of other self-published books and be lost forever!
As for editing, I usually edit each chapter as I finish it. I prefer to work that way. I will then read the book through a couple of times after I have finished. To be honest I don’t have any particular issues regarding editing.

Great post Stevie. Wow, I don’t recall reading a book with those glaring types of errors. The odd typo is expected even in a trad published book, human nature, but that is bad. 🙂

Once again, I make many, many mistakes, and have paid for editing and proofreading, but those damn errors get through. Gremlins, it’s all gremlins! 🙂

I think most writers have an aversion to the marketing side of things. I mean, It’d be sooooo much nicer if all we had to do is write our books and then the world beat a path to Amazon to buy them.

How wonderful that would be!

I also find those types of errors irritating. I understand a handful are bound to go through, but when a supposedly finished book is riddled with them, I can’t get past it.
