Glorious sunshine so far. We met up with Sam’s sisters last night who had just arrived. However, due to having received bad news almost as soon as they got here, they had to return to the mainland early this morning and so we weren’t able to see much of them.

Today it was time to get our Island legs working. We decided to tackle the Wootton Walk, which took us about 2 hours to complete. It starts off at Wootton Lake, where to start with we take a footpath less travelled past a woodland burial site.

Then we cross over the steam railway line for the first time, and if you’re lucky you might see the train go by, as we did …

Then it’s onwards through the fields, through kissing gates (Sam’s asking “What about a kiss then?”), and walking along lovely shady paths…

To where a house sits all on its lonesome in the middle of a field.

After that we cross back over the railway line again towards Wootton, and end up passing the woodland burial site again, where we sit and have a drink.

This slightly hilly walk is good for the legs, and tells them what they’ve got coming in the next week or so. Tomorrow is swimming, and then a mini music festival at Ryde. On Monday all hell breaks loose when our son and his wife arrive together with their three little boys!
