Wow, I’d like to thank all the people who came forward to answer 20 of my questions for my new ‘Understanding’ anthology, which is going to focus on significant life events. So far I’ve had insight into depression, alcoholism, teenage pregnancy, sexual abuse, becoming a carer, a near death experience, coping with a hip replacement, chronic pain, being a harem boy, and caffeine addiction. I’m now awaiting answers from people who have dealt with giving up smoking, a narcissistic parent, and bereavement. I’m also going to add an article on coping with cancer.
I’m going to list all the authors/bloggers below, in order to seek permission to publish their answers on my blog and in the anthology. I would prefer to publish the book on Amazon, and therefore it cannot be free. I’m seeking advice on the price of the book and opinions on whether to give any royalties to charity, or whether to distribute royalties amongst the authors involved say once a year when money has had a chance to build up.
What do you think?

HI Stevie, may I have your email address to send you what I have so far regarding cancer.
I answered 9 questions and it’s about 1000 scribbling words. Then you can let me know if I should answer more questions. My current answers might have answered more than one question.
I’ll work on more questions tomorrow.

Hi Stevie. How exciting this is! Yes, the book must go on Amazon to get more eyes than other platforms. For sure donate it. How about making it only 99 cents and mentioning in the blurb that proceeds go to cancer donations. Sure you can publish my answers, here and in the book, Which reminds me, will we be able to link that book on our author page? 🙂

Yes I think the consensus seems to be to donate to charity, so I’ll send any profits to Cancer Research. Yes you can link the book to your own page. If you sign in at Amazon Author Central, find the book and then click on ‘This is my book’.

You have my permission to publish my answers in your anthology when I get them to you either today or tomorrow. Are you planning to make the book available on Kindle with text-to-speech enabled? If so, you’ll reach more people. As for the money, although it would be nice to have some extr income, I’m sure others need it more than I do, so why not donate it to charity?

It’ll be on Kindle, but I don’t know how to make it available on text-to-speech. How does that work?

Cancer Research is a worthy charity, Stevie, but just to be included is wonderful on its own merit…

Giving the royalties, after covering the costs, to charity is a good idea.

Hi Stevie, do you have anyone who writes the article on coping with cancer? I think it’s easier to handle if the authors give the royalty to charity.

I could write the article as I’m a stage 4 thyroid cancer survivor. Alternatively you could send me 20 questions!

Oh I didn’t know you had stage 4 thyroid cancer. Good that you survived. I survived stage 4 melanoma cancer and have been in remission for ten years.
I could send you 20 questions. I’ll write it on the plane today when I fly to visit my granddaughter.

You’re welcome. I have some right now (I had some sweet late in the evening that kept me up, so I got up at 4 am). I’ll have some more later.
1. How did you find out your cancer?
2. What stage was it in the first discovery?
3. What was your initial reaction?
4. How did it affect your personal life, family life, work life at time of discovery?
5. If it did, did you make any changes?
6. What kind of treatment did the doctor(?) recommend?
7. Were there different treatment options or did you go with what was recommended?
8. How did the treatment affect you physically such as side effects?
9. Did you have support groups such as family and friends?
10. What did they do to help you through the treatment process?

Actually, thinking about it, we’ve had different cancers, so why not send me another 10 and then answer them all yourself regarding your own cancer? What say you?

In fact, Stevie, some of the questions I sent you were regarding my own cancer, I have my answers and I thought you might have different answers. I do have more Q&A for my own cancer.
I was doing 3 things at the same times when I gave you the questions. Right now I’m doing a spreadsheet for my taxes, and I’m almost done.
It’s a “yes.” I can work on the Q&A later today.

I would think the inclusion of the authors/bloggers and links is probably sufficient reward for a venture like this, Stevie.
Royalty division among many from proceeds of an Amazon or Kindle book is difficult. Covering costs is the first goal, though you’re right to canvas the details up front.
Best of luck with it.

Thanks Frank. I’ll pay for a cover, sure, and then recoup my costs. It seems the charity option is the way forward. Any objections to Cancer Research?

Not from me, but I’m not a player – just shouting from the sidelines.
Seriously? I’d put the money aside to pay for the next cover and keep rolling on with new initiatives. Better for the writers – an ongoing thrill.
Charity is good, though.
