In all the years we have lived in our village (31+) the stream has never run totally dry. However, this is now no longer the case. Here’s a rather sad photo that shows how global warming is creeping up on us here in East Anglia. There was a very small drizzle of rain yesterday, but that’s all we’ve had for weeks.
Also I’ve noticed that the harvest is early this year. We’ve already got bales of hay on the fields that usually appear at the end of August…
It’s rather worrying. I remember the water shortage in the drought of 1976 and how the Army had to give out bottled water when the taps ran dry. I’m waiting for a hosepipe ban to be announced, which I am sure is coming soon…

Gosh, it really is very dry, Stevie. So unusual for the uK.

No rain for weeks and weeks. Apparently even the level of the Thames is the lowest since 2005.

Let’s hope this will change to better. I miss changes in view of establishing a good public transportation also here in Germany. We will not solve the problems with e-cars, as we never will have so much efuels for every existing car.

We’re slowly going electric over here, but there are not enough charging points for cars at the moment.

We’ve had drought years five out of the last six years. This year was, at one point, the driest on record. We had some rare June showers, which brought us up to the 3rd dries year in history.

Wow, we’re in a similar situation over here with the hottest temperature this month ever recorded at 40.3C at Heathrow.

Last summer we went 2 1/2 months without rain. This year we had a record snowfall plus record spring rains (which = flooding). Now it seems to have moderated, but for how long?

Indeed. I remember the UK heatwave of 1976 ended in severe flooding. I wonder if this will happen in 2022?

I remember a summer in Austin, around 1990, give or take a year, when lake Travis was so low floating docks and marinas were sitting on dry land, lake front restaurants were going out of business and the weatherman, with nothing to do, would show radar images of the bats coming out. The bat radar. We’re running 12 inches behind in rain this year. It’s hot almost everywhere, all the water issues… begs the question where the heck is desalination?

Yep, pretty brown and stark in Cornwall too. And with the record heat, everything dries up quicker than usual too.

This is definitely the longest rain-free period I can recall in the 10 years we have lived in Norfolk. Our local river is still flowing though, and quite healthy too, with lots of fish, crayfish, water voles, and dragonflies. The huge banks of stinging nettles have collapsed across the paths due to lack of rainwater, and a fair-sized tree fell into the river from the bank last week, its roots dried out.
Because we have had so many wet and miserable summers here, I am not complaining. I don’t use the hose on the garden because we are on metered water, but I agree that they will have to bring in a hosepipe ban soon.

Yes, and maybe even water rationing. I’ve started buying 2 big bottles of water from the supermarket every week just in case. If they’re not needed, then I’ll put them on the garden.
