Welcome to another Friday Showcase. This will be the last Friday Showcase for a while, as I’ve decided to cut down on WordPress posts and other social media sites. I’m retired now, and have found more things to do besides constantly checking social media. I’ve had enough for now, but will doubtless return in the future, as I haven’t given up writing blogs altogether.
Today I’m showcasing Olga Núñez Miret. Olga was born in Barcelona, Spain, and trained in Medicine, moving to the UK in 1992 (shortly after the Olympics) with the plan of training in psychiatry. She spent quite a few years working in psychiatry (most recently forensic psychiatry) but also studied American literature and criminology. Olga has also translated her books and also other authors’ work. She has taught English, and has volunteered at a local radio station.
After living in the UK for over 25 years she decided to go back to Barcelona to search for inspiration. Over time Olga has done many things and has had other lives, but however far she wanders, she keeps coming back to books and stories, her two earliest loves. When reading was no longer enough, Olga started writing. Her first book was published in 2012 and her publications span different genres, from literary fiction to romance, Young Adult, psychological thrillers, and non-fiction.

I’ll showcase one of Olga’s books today – a prequel to the ‘Escaping Psychiatry‘ series which you can get for FREE on AmazonUS (not free on AmazonUK). It is called ‘Escaping Psychiatry – Beginnings‘. It introduces you to the characters.
Description:
How far would a writer go for a killer story? This is the question psychiatrist Mary Miller must answer to solve the first mystery/thriller of her career. You can get to know the main characters of this psychological thriller series for FREE and test your own acumen and intuition in this novella about the price of ambition.
Dr Mary Miller is a young psychiatrist suffering a crisis of vocation. Her friend Phil, a criminalist lawyer working in New York, invites her to visit him and consult on the case of a writer accused of a serious assault. His victim had been harassing him and accusing him of stealing his story, which he’d transformed into a best-selling book. The author denies the allegation and claims it was self-defence. When the victim dies, things get complicated. The threshold between truth and fiction becomes blurred and secrets and lies unfold.
Escaping Psychiatry. Beginnings is the prequel to Escaping Psychiatry a volume collecting three stories where Mary and her psychiatric expertise are called to help in a variety of cases, from religious and race affairs, to the murder of a policeman, and in the last case she gets closer than ever to a serial killer.
If you enjoy this novella, don’t forget to check Mary’s further adventures. And there are more to come.
By the way, Olga or anybody else, how does one go about making a book permanently free on Amazon? I can only make mine free for 5 days at a time.

Thanks so much, Stevie. You’re a star and hope you enjoy your retirement and your new activities. I keep reporting to Amazon that some of my books are free in other places, but anybody in the UK can do that, as they tend to honour low prices in other places, and the prequel to Escaping Psychiatry should be free on Amazon as well (it is in other stores). Now I understand why I’ve had some downloads of my book. You’re a star!

thanks for your introduction of olga to us, I popped over to visit her blog and enjoyed it, and now I’m following, looking forward to more. as for your adjustment to how much time blogging will take up moving ahead for you, I think you’re right to adjust as you go, matching what you’d like to spend you time on and look forward to seeing you here when you stop by

Olga is one of the first bloggers I followed, and as well as being a great writer, she is a really supportive and fully-engaged blogger. Since returning to Spain she doesn’t post that much, but still runs her Tuesday book blog which is always interesting.
Best wishes, Pete.
