I’ve bought one of those FitBit things. It now sits on my wrist in place of my watch and not only does it tell me what the time is, it also nags at my conscience in a very subtle way to complete 10,000 steps every day. Out I go every morning and evening for the 2 mile walk around the village if I’m not working (4250 steps x 2), or on work days there’s a 25 minute hike to the hospital (3000 steps) and back from where I park the car, and sundry trips around the hospital looking for patients’ notes. These and a few other shorter walks during the day ensures my conscience is clear when I go to bed (it can even tell me how much sleep I’m getting).
It’s cheaper than if I owned a dog to make me get out and do exercise, and I don’t have to walk around with bags of excrement! All I have to do is to remember to plug it into a charger every so often.
It’s a great little device. It tells me what my heart rate is, how many calories I’ve used up, and how far I’ve walked. There’s even a setting for when I go out for a ride on the bike. All I’ve got to keep doing now is buying new trainers every now and then!
Have you got a FitBit? How many steps do you take in a day?

Good on you Stevie. I’m sorely lacking in fitness these busy days. Maybe it’s time I get me one of those babies. 🙂 x

I’ve had second thoughts today, as I’ve read that it emits radiation when it’s connected to your phone via Bluetooth. I’ve had enough radiation to last me several lifetimes. Sam hasn’t had any though, and says he’s happy to wear it. At least I’ve found out how many steps it is around my village, lol! If I can find out whether it’s okay to wear it after deleting the phone app and without Bluetooth, then I may put it back on.

Thanks for that Stevie. You’ve given me pause now. Between all my travels in airport scanners and tests, now you have me wondering. So do let me know if it functions wihout the phone app, as I won’t bother either. 🙂

It does function without the app, but I want to find out if there’s a radiation problem in using just the FitBit by itself. Does anybody know?

I wouldn’t know, as I haven’t done any research on it yet – something I usually do before purchasing electronics 🙂

Everyone I know loves them too, but nobody I know ever questioned the radiation. Did you Google?

I listened to friends at work when I should have Googled, but I think Fitbits are okay if they’re not connected to the app via Bluetooth.

Google is my friend I use to investigate every single electronic item I want to purchase before buying – especially helpful for laptop info. 🙂

Good for you, Stevie, nothing wrong with a little external motivation! I had the fitbit one, then after 2 years of faithful service it died, to be replaced by the Fitbit charge 2 which I still have. My bestie gave me her Fitbit Versa which is waterproof and plays music!! They’re connected to my etools app for WW and keep track of everything. You can buy new wristbands on amazon to change up the look. Enjoy, Stevie!

I have a cheap version. I rarely make it to 10,000 steps in a day but I do try to get out as often as possible. When you get older your memory will help you – the other day I walked to the shop and discovered, at the check out, I’d left my wallet at home. That doubled the usual distance walked that day! (Usual round trip: 4,500; x 2 = 9,000)

I don’t own one of these and, while I try to walk up and down the stairs at work every day, I probably only achieve half of this number of steps.

You can set it to however many steps you want to do each day.

If I had a Fitbit that thing would get a fit. I barely get out of my house except for school and coaching. Poor you. You literally got stuck with the latest technology. We call Fitbit ‘the only technology that nags people but we can’t break it because it’s expensive.’ Too long title but true.

Then you are lucky, I have seen many of my friends break their expensive Fitbit. I pitied their state. I’d rather buy books than that. I could buy a whole library with the amount I would have to pay for the Fitbit. 🤑😜

I haven’t got one, but judging by distances, I suspect I clock up a fair number of steps across the week. It’s just that walking a lot, often carrying things, is very much part of the job 🙂

My Fit Bit Gadget comes in the form of dogs and horses which does equal poo and lots of it but it’s at least worth it in that you can have lots of fun, constant companionship / the best type of friend whilst out exercising and it doesn’t need to be plugged in / can’t run down and wear out its battery. You have to get up and out no matter what it has a battery life that never ends and alarms you can’t silence – the only way to shut it up is to physically get up and go outside.
I’ve been hanging around farms with horses and dogs since being a kid though so the poo issue isn’t an issue really. It’s as normal and standard as having a cup of tea each morning.

Lol, I wondered how long it would be before a dog lover replied! I couldn’t bear all the hairs, mud, mess and aforementioned poo. Also because I’ve had excessive radiotherapy to my neck, if I touch any animal it has the potential to cause my neck to swell up on the inside. I avoid creatures like the plague!

I’m such a lazy cow though. Honestly I’m shocking. If I had only gadgets to motivate me and or just keep me alive I’d be too idle to find the charger.
